Integrating Google BigQuery with Zapier: A Step-by-Step Guide

Published on Feb 28th, 2024

In today's data-driven world, the ability to efficiently manage and analyze large sets of data is paramount for any business. Google BigQuery, a highly scalable and cost-effective multi-cloud data warehouse, and Zapier, a tool that connects your favorite apps and automates workflows, can be a powerful combination. Here's how to set up BigQuery in Zapier, allowing you to streamline your data processes and automate workflows seamlessly.

Step 1: Ensure You Have an Active Google Cloud Account and BigQuery Set Up
Before integrating with Zapier, you need to have a Google Cloud account. If you haven't already, sign up for Google Cloud, navigate to the console, and follow the instructions to set up BigQuery.

Step 2: Set Up a Zapier Account
If you don’t already have a Zapier account, go to zapier.com and sign up for an account. There are various plans available depending on your needs, including a free tier.

Step 3: Create a New Zap
Log into Zapier and click on 'Make a Zap'. 'Zap' is Zapier terminology for the automated workflow you want to create.

Step 4: Choose Your Trigger App
Select the application that will trigger your Zap. For instance, you might choose Google Sheets to send data to BigQuery whenever a new row is added.

Step 5: Select Your Action App as Google BigQuery
After setting up the trigger, search for 'Google BigQuery' as the action in your Zap. Choose the action you wish to occur in BigQuery - for example, 'Insert Row' to add new data to a BigQuery table.

Step 6: Connect Your Google BigQuery Account
You’ll be prompted to connect your Google BigQuery account. Zapier will require you to authenticate your Google Cloud account and grant permissions allowing Zapier to interact with BigQuery.

Step 7: Set Up Your BigQuery Action
Configure the details of your BigQuery action. Select the specific dataset and table you want to insert data into, and match the fields from your trigger app to the corresponding fields in your BigQuery table.

Step 8: Test and Activate Your Zap
Always test your Zap to ensure that the data flows correctly from your trigger app to BigQuery. If the test is successful, your Zap is ready to go! Turn it on, and you'll have automated the process.

Zapier's integration with BigQuery empowers your organization to connect disparate systems and automate data flows, leading to increased efficiency and the power of real-time analytics. With your new BigQuery Zap set up, your organization is well-equipped to handle the vast amounts of data at your fingertips.
