Get Your GIF Under Discord's Upload Limit
Discord's published attachment limits, verified against Discord's File Attachments FAQ on 25 August 2026, are 20 MB on a free account, 50 MB on Nitro Basic, and 500 MB on Nitro. The free limit was 10 MB until 14 August 2026, so a lot of the advice you will find elsewhere still quotes 8 MB or 10 MB. Discord also measures the original file size before any compression the client applies, which is why an upload can fail on a phone and succeed on desktop. Limits change; check Discord's own FAQ if the number here looks out of date.
This page runs the same compressor as our main GIF tool, opened straight into compression mode. Set a target size, compress, and read the actual output size before you download. The tool tells you the real byte count rather than promising a percentage, because how much a GIF shrinks depends entirely on what is in it. A screen recording with a static background collapses dramatically. A confetti explosion barely moves.
Everything happens locally through FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Your GIF is never uploaded, there is no account, no watermark, and no queue. If the GIF still will not fit after compression, the honest answer is usually to trim it, shrink its dimensions, or convert it to MP4, and this page links to all three.
Built for Discord Uploads
Target the limit, verify the result
Target Size, Not a Guess
Choose the size you need to hit and compress toward it instead of dragging a quality slider blind.
Real Before and After Bytes
The output size is measured, not estimated, so you know whether it will upload before you try.
Current Discord Limits
Free, Nitro Basic, and Nitro limits as published by Discord, with the date we last verified them.
Nothing Is Uploaded
FFmpeg runs in your browser tab. The GIF never touches a server, ours or anyone else's.
No Watermark, No Account
No sign-up, no email wall, and nothing stamped onto your GIF.
A Route Out When It Still Fails
If compression is not enough, we point you at resizing, trimming, or converting to MP4 instead.
